Sharpening Our Emergency Response: Annual Simulation Exercise Held at Holy Family Catholic Hospital

Every year, our Emergency Department sets aside time to put itself to the test. On 17th August 2026, that day came again as we conducted our annual emergency response simulation exercise—an activity that has become a fixture in how we prepare our team for the unpredictable nature of emergency care.

The exercise was supervised by our Emergency Training Centre team, led by Dr. Angela Prah, alongside Dr. Ninnang Tobias, Abigail Mensah, Rukaya Seidu Cynthia, and Daniel Anane. Beyond sharpening technical response skills, the training was a reminder of something we hold dear here: no one handles an emergency alone. It takes a team that trusts each other, communicates clearly, and knows exactly what to do in the first few critical minutes.

Staff were put through scenarios that tested how quickly they could assess a situation, decide what mattered most, and act on it together. Leadership on the floor, clear handovers, and coordination between colleagues were all put under the spotlight, because in real emergencies, these are the things that often make the difference.

We do this every year because we know what's at stake. A patient's outcome can hinge on how fast and how well we respond in those first moments, and that's not something we take lightly. So we keep training, keep refreshing what our staff already know, and keep looking for ways to do better.

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who made this possible: our hospital management for their continued support of these trainings, Dr. Angela Prah and the entire Emergency Training Centre team for their expertise and effort in organizing the exercise, and every staff member who showed up, participated fully, and gave it their best. It is this shared commitment that keeps our emergency response sharp.
